Philosophy and Methods - Mathematics - I believe that the best way to help students improve their math skills is to tutor them one-on-one and to closely monitor their individual strengths and weaknesses. There is no standardized, "mass-production" method that can accurately address your child's needs because no two minds work exactly alike. Experience has taught me that many students lack the two-way communications skills needed to convert their understanding of math concepts into problem-solving and test-taking success. Throughout all tutoring sessions I pay close attention to this often-overlooked skill. I work from approved and time-tested standards to assure that your child will stay in synch with the demands being placed on him/her by his/her school. I conform to the official Massachusetts Mathematics Frameworks. I use books and other materials used by many schools in the area. For MCAS, SAT and ACT preparation I use actual questions from previous tests. I will give your child the skills and the confidence to master tough new concepts. Even more important, I will promote a positive attitude toward mathematics, and toward academics in general. |
