Philosophy and Methods I believe that the best way to help students improve their math skills is to tutor them one-on-one and to closely monitor their individual strengths and weaknesses. There is no standardized, "mass-production" method that can accurately address your child's needs because no two minds work exactly alike. Experience has taught me that many students lack the two-way communications skills needed to convert their understanding of math concepts into problem-solving and test-taking success. Throughout all tutoring sessions I pay close attention to this often-overlooked skill. I work from approved and time-tested standards to assure that your child will stay in synch with the demands being placed on him/her by his/her school. I conform to the official Massachusetts Mathematics Frameworks. I use books and other materials used by many schools in the area. For MCAS, SAT and ACT preparation I use actual questions from previous tests. I will give your child the skills and the encouragement to master tough new concepts. Even more important, I will promote a positive attitude toward mathematics, and toward academics in general. |

SUMMER ALGEBRA COURSE For the summer, I am offering a complete Algebra 1 course as a preview for those who will be taking their first Algebra course or for those who have already taken Algebra 1 but just need a "tune-up" prior to taking Algebra 2 or some other math course. The duration of the course will be four weeks. Call or email for details and rates. |

DEBATING COURSE I am offering a debating course for high school students, during the school year and during the summer. It will consist of groups of 2 to 4 students of similar age who will debate a different topic each week. Some topics will be assigned by me, some will be selected from a list, and some will come directly from the students. |
