Math Tutoring Philosophy & Methods I believe that the best way to help students improve their math skills is to tutor them one-on-one and closely monitor their individual strengths and weaknesses. There is no standardized, "mass-production" method that can accurately address your child's needs, because no two minds work exactly alike. Experience has taught me that many students lack the two-way communications skills needed to convert their understanding of math concepts into problem-solving and test-taking success. Throughout all tutoring sessions I pay close attention to this often-overlooked skill. I work from approved and time-tested standards to assure that your child will stay in synch with the demands of the schools. I use books and other materials used by many schools in the area. For MCAS, SAT and ACT preparation I use problems from actual tests. I provide students with the skills and confidence to master tough new concepts. Even more important, I promote a positive attitude toward mathematics, and toward academics in general. |

For SAT preparation, I use "The Official SAT Study Guide", copyrighted by the College Board and published by Macmillan. Because the College Board is the developer and publisher of the SAT itself, this is the only study guide that can legally publish actual previous SAT tests. So doing the practice tests in this study guide gives students the most authentic preview of what their actual SAT test will be like. |

For ACT preparation, I use "The Real ACT Prep Guide", copyrighted by ACT, Inc. and published by Peterson's. Because ACT, Inc. is the developer and publisher of the ACT itself, this is the only study guide that can legally publish actual previous ACT tests.
